Employee of the Month

For a long time around here, Rachelle was our only processor (she has told me what this means, but I still don’t really get it). Back in 2008 when the economy was in the pooper, we all had loads of free time to enjoy long lunches (well, not really because we couldn’t afford them), the guys could golf on Fridays (on credit), and weekends were for leisure (turns out, lounging on the sofa is free). Back then, Rachelle worked a normal 40+ hours a week and had time to wash her hair.

But then, things started picking up. And up. And up. Soon, Rachelle was working around 18 hours a day to process all the loans you fabulous people were bringing our branch. At one point she got sick, but Chad made her work anytime her fever would break by holding up her head for her while she typed.

It was time to hire another processor. But who?

It’s a Process

An Interview with our new Processor, Nikki Hurtado

Just the Assistant: First things first, Nikki, who is your favorite person at this branch?

Nikki: You are, my dear.

JTA: Perfect! Now then, how did James and Chad find you?

Nikki: We all used to work together at – [at this point Nikki names a company, and James shouts from his office “Don’t put their name on the blog!].

JTA: So you used to work together. Did the Bosses know you were fabulous back then?

[At this point, Chad interrupts, “Nikki taught me this business. I always knew I wanted to work with her again. We’ve kept in touch the whole time.”]

Nikki: Ever since I’d worked with these guys I knew I wanted to work with them again, too. But either they didn’t have enough business for me, or I wasn’t at a point where I could make a move. But eventually, God lined everything up.

JTA: How long have you been in this business?

Nikki: Fourteen years. I started as an admin for a mortgage company in Denver. I used to have to go to Office Depot and make copies of loans. Everything was paper back then, and the company didn’t even have a copy machine! Actually, Envoy is the first company I’ve worked for that’s paperless.

[I swear she said this. I’m not just plugging this stuff in.]

JTA: What’s the hardest part of your job?

Nikki: Staying on top of everything. And getting clients to turn everything in to me.

[Tsk tsk tsk…]

Nikki: But make sure to tell everyone that I love Hayley! [They’re cube neighbors.]

JTA: How many hours a week do you work?

Nikki (masking a cough and snicker): I usually leave here at 6:30 or so, go home, and start working again at about 9:00 until 11:00. I don’t like to wake up to surprises so I try to get everything wrapped up at night before I go to sleep.

Hayley (with head popping over cube): And then she dreams about it.

Nikki: It’s true.

JTA: Sheesh! What do you do for fun?

Nikki: I read, and watch Duck Dynasty. [No clue.]

JTA: Alright, Nikki, well thanks for finally finding time to do this interview [she’s been here six months]. Now go process all those loans!
